Our Experience

Specialized Experience in Process Safety Consulting and Testing

HazBasis supports industrial clients working through complex fire, explosion, chemical reaction, combustible dust, overpressure, and toxic release hazards. Our experience spans process safety consulting, laboratory testing, engineering calculations, hazard assessments, compliance support, incident investigation, and technical training, and much of our work draws on more than one of those at once, since a lab result is rarely useful without the engineering judgment to interpret it.

Process Safety Consulting

Our consulting work covers Process Hazard Analysis and HAZOP, Dust Hazard Analysis, combustible dust compliance assessments, hazardous area classification, ignition source analysis, electrostatic hazard analysis, chemical reaction hazard evaluation, pressure relief and emergency vent sizing, facility siting and consequence analysis, fire and explosion hazard analysis, incident investigation and root cause analysis, OSHA Process Safety Management support, EPA Risk Management Program support, and broader process safety program development and auditing.

Process Safety Testing

We provide and develop specialized testing for combustible materials, reactive chemicals, flammable liquids, batteries, and industrial products, including dust explosion screening and characterization, maximum explosion pressure and deflagration index testing, minimum ignition energy and ignition temperature testing, limiting oxygen concentration testing, differential scanning calorimetry, accelerating rate calorimetry, micro reaction calorimetry, vent sizing package testing, flash point testing, battery thermal runaway and gas generation rate testing, and electrostatic and conductive flooring testing. That laboratory data feeds directly into equipment design, pressure relief analysis, explosion protection, fire protection, operating limits, facility design, emergency planning, and process safety management, not just an isolated certificate.

Industries We Support

Our work spans chemical and petrochemical processing, battery and energy storage manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, food and agricultural processing, pharmaceutical and specialty chemical production, plastics, polymers, and composite materials, metal and powder processing, oil, gas, and energy operations, warehousing and material handling, and research laboratories and pilot plants.

Standards and Recognized Practices

Depending on project scope, HazBasis services may reference applicable requirements and guidance from organizations including OSHA, EPA, NFPA, ASTM International, IEC, ISO, API, the Center for Chemical Process Safety, the Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems, and the International Building and Fire Codes. The applicable codes, standards, test methods, and engineering practices are evaluated for each project individually, not applied as a one-size-fits-all solution.
