Electronics manufacturing has a somewhat inverted relationship with electrostatic hazards compared to most industries HazBasis works with. Elsewhere, the concern is usually static discharge as an ignition source; in electronics, the same charge that could ignite a flammable atmosphere is often also what destroys the component you’re trying to protect. That doesn’t eliminate the ignition risk, though. Solvent cleaning, flux application, conformal coating, and other processes still introduce flammable vapors, and facilities that treat static control purely as a product-quality issue can miss that it’s also a process safety one.

Semiconductor and printed circuit board fabrication bring their own hazard set: specialty gases that can be flammable, pyrophoric, or toxic, chemical etching and cleaning processes with reactive and corrosive materials, and cleanroom environments where ventilation and containment decisions carry both a contamination-control purpose and a genuine fire and explosion safety purpose. Battery integration adds another layer, since most modern electronics ship with a lithium-ion cell inside, and manufacturing, testing, and quality assurance operations need to understand what happens when one of those cells fails, not just whether it works.

HazBasis supports electronics manufacturers with electrostatic hazard analysis that accounts for both ignition risk and equipment protection, hazardous area classification for solvent and specialty gas operations, flammable liquid fire and explosion analysis for cleaning and coating processes, and battery ARC and thermal runaway testing for facilities that assemble, test, or store lithium-ion cells and packs. We work with the reality that electronics facilities often need static control for two different reasons at once, and a plan built for only one of them leaves a real gap in the other.
